It was not until I was in my early 40's that I learned what the difference was between the political left and right. Never really involved myself in political issues. I thought myself a Democrat because the name itself sounded "democratic". I use to listen to what is now called the lame-stream media and hear "news" casters trash Rush Limbaugh and think to myself, 'he must be a real a-hole'. I stumbled across Rush on the radio one day and decided to listen for a while. And in the "while" I could not identify anything that I did not agree with him on. That was my epiphany. I now knew the difference between left and right, and from then on considered myself a Republican. In the years since my epiphany I have learned that there is more than just Dems and Reps. I learned that the biggest difference is that between Liberal and Conservative. Although at some point I had registered to vote as a Republican, today that is secondary to considering myself a Conservative.
